Externally the proposals’ palette of materials matches the existing dwelling where possible and modern elements or build methods are introduced to compliment the existing building through: simple articulation, clean lines, and discretion. This project also aims to: increase biodiversity by replacing brick paving with permeable paving.
The project is situated at a two level end of terrace house build in the mid 20th century with the Blackheath conversation area as a single family unit. Our scope was to design and construct a modest and subordinate rear and side extension and create an open plan kitchen and working space.
The design strategy intended to respect distinctive features of the existing house, while providing improved accommodation which was able to be achieved during the construction phase .
We had explored several options with our clients before deciding upon one we felt was considerate to the amenity of the neighbour and in keeping with the house
and neighbourhood. Consideration for: materials, form, and order within the design helped inform decisions which we believe will create a discrete proposal while achieving the desired increased accommodation for the home.
